Check the programs in the startup. Using "msconfig" from the command prompt will display all the programs running on the startup or while booting the machine. Disable all the programs like nero cd writer, yahoo/msn messenger, weather forecast, any toolbar utilities, googleupgdate.exe, juschd.exe(java update scheduler), webserver, IIS admin etc other than antivirus in the startup and try. Otherwise after booting, in the taskmanager, check the services running and kill the unwanted services and remove the same from the autoexec.bat/startup programs in the registry.
